The short answer
JunkRabbit prices junk removal across Hampton Roads two ways: a flat price per item, or a truck-fill tier for piles and cleanouts. A standard sofa is $126, a queen mattress $103, a standard fridge $164, a quarter truck $241 and a full truck $732. The order minimum is $100. There's no stairs fee, no same-day surcharge and no sales tax on the service here.
Truck-fill tiers for piles and cleanouts
| Truck fill | Flat price |
|---|---|
| 1/4 truck (~4 cubic yards) | $241 |
| 3/8 truck (~6 cubic yards) | $338 |
| 1/2 truck (~8 cubic yards) | $431 |
| 5/8 truck (~10 cubic yards) | $513 |
| 3/4 truck (~12 cubic yards) | $587 |
| 7/8 truck (~14 cubic yards) | $661 |
| Full truck (~16 cubic yards) | $732 |
Truck tiers are for mixed loads where counting items one by one makes no sense. Think of a Kempsville garage that has collected thirty years of paint cans, bikes and boxes, or a Ghent attic full of things nobody has looked at since the 1990s. They also fit the leftovers of a PCS move, when the movers have taken the household goods and what remains is a scatter of odds and ends.
A cubic yard is a cube three feet on each side. Picture a washing machine and a bit more. A quarter truck, about 4 cubic yards, is a decent pile in one bay of a garage. A full truck, about 16 cubic yards, is a whole garage or a small house cleared out. When a load has a few big pieces and a lot of small ones, compare the item total with the nearest tier and use whichever is lower.
Furniture
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Sofa / Couch | $126 |
| Loveseat | $119 |
| Sleeper Sofa | $149 |
| Sectional Sofa (3-Piece) | $185 |
| Recliner | $98 |
| Armchair / Accent Chair | $77 |
| Dresser (Standard) | $126 |
| Dining Table (6-8 Seat) | $163 |
| Dining Chair | $45 |
| Coffee Table | $67 |
| Entertainment Center / TV Stand | $96 |
| Desk (Standard) | $83 |
Furniture is the biggest share of junk jobs in the 757, mostly because people here move so often. Orders come in, families relocate, and the worn sofa or the heavy dresser doesn't make the cut for the household goods weight allowance. Students leave Larchmont and Brambleton in May and December. Oceanfront rentals swap furniture between seasons.
Solid-wood and oversized pieces have their own lines, so a heavy armoire is priced differently from a flat-pack wardrobe. Every price includes carrying the piece out of whatever room it's in. A living room of sofa, loveseat and coffee table comes to $126 + $119 + $67 = $312.
Mattresses and beds
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Mattress — Twin | $82 |
| Mattress — Full / Double | $94 |
| Mattress — Queen | $103 |
| Mattress — King / Cal King | $114 |
| Box Spring (Any Size) | $92 |
| Mattress + Box Spring Set | $143 |
| Bed Frame (Standard / Metal / Platform) | $68 |
| Bunk Bed | $123 |
The set price is the one to remember. A queen mattress and box spring priced separately would be $103 + $92 = $195; the set is $143. A whole queen bed with a metal frame is $143 + $68 = $211. A lone twin mattress is $82, which falls under the minimum, so on its own it is billed at $100.
Mattresses are a big part of move-out season. They're awkward on the narrow stairs of older Norfolk and Portsmouth houses and too big for most car trunks, which is why they're so often the first thing people book.
Appliances
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Refrigerator (Standard) | $164 |
| Refrigerator (Side-by-Side / French Door) | $183 |
| Freezer (Chest) | $146 |
| Washer | $133 |
| Dryer | $128 |
| Dishwasher | $109 |
| Stove / Oven / Range (Electric) | $134 |
| Water Heater (Tank) | $131 |
| Window AC Unit (Large, 8k+ BTU) | $109 |
| Dehumidifier | $77 |
Refrigerated appliances need their refrigerant handled properly, and that is built into the price. Disconnect water and gas lines before the crew arrives, and empty and defrost fridges and freezers a day ahead.
A washer and dryer together are $133 + $128 = $261. A garage chest freezer left behind before a PCS move is $146. Virginia Beach residents with a truck can also drop appliances free at the Resource Recovery Center, so the paid route is for when the appliance is inside, heavy or due out on a deadline.
Electronics
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| TV (Under 42") | $62 |
| TV (42" to 65") | $68 |
| TV (65"+) | $73 |
| Desktop Computer / Tower | $62 |
| Computer Monitor | $58 |
| Box of Electronics | $77 |
Virginia Beach's bulky pickup won't take computer towers, and Norfolk's e-waste is drop-off only, on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. Most electronics are under the $100 minimum on their own, so they usually ride along with a bigger item. A TV and its stand are $68 + $96 = $164. Wipe or remove any hard drive before it goes.
Garage, yard and outdoor
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Lawn Mower | $65 |
| Riding Mower / Lawn Tractor | $152 |
| Propane Grill | $123 |
| Patio Table | $89 |
| Patio Chair (Each) | $30 |
| Kayak / Canoe / Paddleboard | $71 |
| Bicycle | $37 |
| Trampoline | $116 |
| Hot Tub / Spa | $390 |
| Yard Waste | $88 |
Coastal living shows up on this list. Kayaks and paddleboards come out of Lynnhaven River and Great Neck garages, patio sets come off Sandbridge rental decks, and grills come off every driveway in Red Mill. A patio table with four chairs is $89 + $30 + $30 + $30 + $30 = $209.
Debris, bags and renovation
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Trash Bag (33-55 gal) | $35 |
| 10 Bags of Debris | $132 |
| Carpet (rolled) | $68 |
| Carpet — Removal (per room) | $71 |
| Drywall (per sheet / small bundle) | $37 |
| Construction Debris | $120 |
| Toilet (Detached) | $64 |
| Full Kitchen Cabinet Set (rip-out) | $293 |
| Paint (1-Gallon Can) | $30 |
These are the items Virginia Beach's bulky pickup refuses: carpet, cabinets, toilets, building materials, bags and paint. Chesapeake's bulk trash also excludes construction debris. After a storm in a flood-prone neighborhood, carpet and drywall are usually the bulk of the job.
How the pricing works
You get the price before you book, from a photo or by picking items online. It only changes if you approve a change, such as adding something when the crew arrives. The order minimum is $100, so a single TV or a coffee table on its own is billed at $100.
There's no stairs fee, no walk-up fee and no same-day surcharge, and there's no sales tax on the service here. There are no volume discounts and no coupons; the listed price is the price. Crews are vetted, insured local haulers, and buildings that need a certificate of insurance get one by email within an hour.
Book by 4 p.m. for same-day pickup. We're open seven days, 8 a.m. to midnight, and you pick a two-hour arrival window. Start on the instant quote page.
Frequently asked questions
Is pricing the same in Norfolk, Chesapeake and the Peninsula?
Yes. The same flat prices apply across Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk and the Peninsula areas we serve. A sofa is $126 on either side of the tunnel.
What is the minimum charge?
The order minimum is $100. An item priced below that, like a $62 TV, is billed at $100 if it's the only item. Adding items uses the visit fully.
Are there extra charges for stairs or same-day?
No. There's no stairs fee, no walk-up fee and no same-day surcharge. Carry-out from any floor is included.
When should I use a truck tier instead of item prices?
Use a truck tier for mixed piles like garage or attic cleanouts. A quarter truck is $241, a half truck $431 and a full truck $732. For a few large items, per-item pricing usually costs less.
Is sales tax added?
No. There's no sales tax on the service here. The flat price you see is what you pay unless you approve a change.
